First I just want to thank you for participating in this edition of Infidel Interviews. With this interview let's just start with a bit about yourself. Where are you from, how old are you, and how long have you been making music for?
I am from Seguin, Texas and I am 29 years of age within human years.
I have been making music on and off for about a good thirteen years.
When you first started making music, was there a particular sound or artistic/musical influence that you would say was your biggest inspiration to start pursuing the creative path yourself? What led you to electronic music, particularly the heavier kinds of it?
I would have to say I was going for the whole industrial scene from the beginning, being influenced by listening to bands such as Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, and Nine Inch Nails. My biggest influences of all though were the underground bands like Unter Null, Alien Vampires, and Pretty Addicted.
What genres of music would you consider yourself to be the most active in, or influenced by? What are your thoughts on genres in general? Do you find them creatively helpful as a template to work with? Or do you find them restricting? Or possibly somewhere in between? Now that the internet has caused so much crossover in music, would you even say genre labels are relevant any more?
The ones I'm most active in or influenced in I would have to say is all electronic music, house, and even techno all the crazy dance music from back in the 80's and 90's which is interesting to me because I am never tied down by genres period.
I love all types of music in fact I think it opens up the mind even more to explore other people's creative ideas and opinions about the world we/they live in and the experiences they lived through here on this earth.
I find the ideas of genres and general a fascination to know I can never be labeled as one style of sound or trend of music.
Is electronic music where you started making music? Or did you have previous musical background or experience before hand? If so does/did your previous musical experience affect your electronic compositions?
Actually no, haha. See the funny story behind all this is I started off in high school with a family member in a punk band playing drums and percussion doing local shows here and there in Seguin Texas back in my past.
It was then I decided to move on by switching from one band to another doing keys and backup vocals for a local metal band.
I finally got fed up with everyone shooting down all my twisted ideas.
I got the idea to start my own project after listening to some Multi Instrumentalist and producers. I was given the idea of starting a music career which in turn led to the project and world of DVR. (Demonic Virtual Reality)
So in the end I would have to say yes all of it did affect me in the end and in very dramatic ways if any.
Would you say that your choice to pursue music has changed your life since you started? Would you say that creativity has evolved you spiritually, emotionally, or logically? What are some of the biggest challenges you have had to overcome in your musical career?
Wow that's a good question, haha. Well when I started making music, it was all about the music itself, never the fame or the money and now it's come to a point where it's about leaving something behind, nothing more then a message.
I want to make something strong that will reach out to the younger generations, and those to come, who have never ever even heard of my existence before.
It's for those who are looking for some kind of guidance or relief from this wicked world we all live in. To understand oneself, as to who we are inside, just like all the other bands in the past years have done for me in my times of our or my own self demise, loneliness, and struggles in this reality.
In fact all three and tremendously even at that.
I mean hell to me music is the most powerful magic in the world, as well the most addicting drug on this planet alone.
As far as the whole overcoming goes some of the biggest ones in my time in creating and producing music would have to be getting over all the hard times like now (so to speak) such as losing all my instruments, programs, software's, and even my own personal equipment over time in having to collect it all over again.
Even building a successful relationship with someone who truly cares and likes to share my life and creative ideas with, now that's a motherfucking struggle, HA!
Someone who will help me along the way and make it fun instead of dragging you down with them by making you feel worthless for chasing after your own dreams and making it into a reality.
At the same time you have to remember all relationships are a two way street you must support your lovers as well in everything they do and believe in or it could end in disaster.
What would you say are your favorite themes and topics to write about? What draws you to those themes?
Well being that I am a real life Vampire, I would say Vampirism, as well the history of it all, that and the experiences I've dealt with when it comes to the all unknowing and supernatural.
What draws me to them you ask, well all the unexplained supernatural experiences I've had over time not to mention religion.
All the little ghost stories all over the world people are told to scar them.
Not just by the mouth over a campfire no lol but, by tails in books, music, and films over time itself.
Are there any particular instruments, programs, or effects that you would say are vital to you making music? If so, is there a reason in particular that draws you to said creative outlet?
Why, yes indeed. I have heard so many good reviews about Mac computers, Logic Pro Studio, Renoise, and even Cubase.
Seeing as to how I do music from my own personal home studio in a low budget term, I would love to get my hands on this alone as well the Mini Nova and Nova Workstation because the sounds alone is what draws me to this beautiful machines, hell if I can get a electric drumset again I'll be back from where I started once again.
I have used everything from real instruments to online studios to LMMS, to Mixcraft, too, FL Studios but, I like less to work with because I honestly think it can bring out more and even better creative ideas with the less you have to work with in my own personal opinion.
Do you have any other musical projects that you are involved with, or do you have any other musicians or artists that you collaborate with in some capacity? If you could collaborate with any musician or artist, dead or alive, who would it be? And what in particular draws you to want to collaborate with them?
No I do not I rather put all my concentration, time, and effort into DVR alone.
I have seen what happens to bands with other projects in their hands and lets just say their first project always suffers from it all, I'm not putting any names out there but, yeah.
Yet when it comes to collaborating I have had the pleasure of doing work with other underground bands like Scarecrow PumpkinSmasher and Pulayshious, hell I even had great feedback from Miss FD and Mel Allezbleu from Grendel and would love to work with many of the famous underground industrial bands that I have had the pleasure of being inspired by over the years.
What draws me to this you ask, well all the different artistic styles of each and every other artist of course.
I would like to think every artist is different in many ways and forms when it comes down to creating a song.
Other than what you currently produce, what other sorts of genres, instruments, and sounds would you like to use in the future? Are there any people you would like to collaborate with in the future artistically, musically, or socially?
I try to expand myself in all genres, again I know no limit when it comes to creating different styles and types of music or sounds period.
As far as instruments haha, If I can get my hands on them all it would be interesting to see what I can do with it. Some of my favorite brands are Nova of course, Roland, and even Casio.
When it comes to non-musical media, what do you find yourself most inspired by, and what about it draws you to it as a source of inspiration?
I would have to say Art and Film, I love the idea of creation and even the idea of creating and destroying.
The fact that you can "Play God" and create something everyone loves or even hates is a magical experience to me alone and there are many forms and ways to come out and produce what is really inside your mind and heart when it comes down to it all in things like art.
Things like drawing, painting, filming, and even acting.
What do you see in the near, and far, future for your creative output?
Another good question, well you see I haven't really thought that far through yet.
I mean everything I have been doing was for my own hobby which led up to entertaining others in trying to not change the world but, influencing others into living life the way they want and to follow their dreams without a care in the world, so I guess I would have to say the same goes for me.
Even if I don't become famous or even as great as the next best underground band I can always say to others I followed my dream and so could you and that alone is my creative output into this world, shit as crazy as it sounds I might just achieve my goal throughout this interview.
