Lilith DX: Infidel Interview #17

March 13, 2016

Hello, and thank you for participating in this edition of Infidel Interviews. First off can we start of with some basics about yourself including name, age, where you live, and what musical skills you have / instruments you play?

I am from Berlin, but I had to move to another city to study music. I plan to come back to Berlin as soon as possible. Many years ago I started playing piano and this is my main instrument, my whole music is based on it. Besides I play guitar, but not very good and I also learned to sing.

How do you enjoy where you live? Is their a vibrant music community for you to indulge? Would you say you find that your local scene influences your attitude and/or creativity?

I don't enjoy this city, here is nothing. Berlin is so much better, that's why I will give my best to finish my study and come back to my home town.

After listening to your music, I have found that though your sound takes route in some genres that currently are prominent, the sound in which you have established in unique in tone and progression. Do you intentionally seek to create your own sort of sonic territory, or is it happy accident?

Very good question. I wouldn't say I planned to do so. My music is somehow the expression of my feelings. I play  piano and work with many synthesizers to create soundscapes I imagined before. Maybe it's my interpretation of dark electronic music. I think it's all my influences combined to one thing. I do what I like.

You have a new release that comes out today. You have obviously worked hard and long to make this compiled release. Is there anything in particular that you would like to mention about this new masterpiece?

I wouldn't call it a masterpiece and in fact it isn't new, except for the Intro and Outro. I will release the tracks, I released on Soundcloud before, to iTunes, Spotify, Amazon etc., so my music is available for everyone and people can support me if they want. I remastered every single track and got it into one release called "Dystopia". They sound so much better now and are worth a look, even if you knew them before.

Dark atmospheres, moody vibes, these might be good ways to describe your music to a new comer. What draws you to the themes of a darker nature? What are some of the major artistic and musical influences that help guide this direction?

I got the most influences from the Gothic Scene, in particular Gothic and Symphonic Metal. I also listened to Industrial and EBM, but it got a bit boring. I wanted to hear more. More soundscapes, deeper electronic atmospheres. That's why I started to do my own electronic music. I love the dark.

Also, I definitely have to mention Trip-Hop to my influences.

What drew you to start creating music yourself? What does your band name mean or where did it come from?

I love the meaning of the name Lilith. "DX" is a secret. Haha.

Would you say that your choice to pursue music has changed your life since you started? Would you say that creativity has evolved you spiritually, emotionally, or logically? What are some of the biggest challenges you have had to overcome in your musical career?

Yes, i would say so. Music is my life. I got my first piano lessons when I was 8, but stopped it 4 years later.

I started listen to Metal when I was 12 years old. I think those bands got me back to piano again, when I was 16. At this moment I realized, I had to study music to learn more about it. 3 years of hard work got me to the university. It's hard, but I learned a lot and got better piano lessons. It was worth the work.

Are there any particular instruments, programs, or effects that you would say are vital to you making music?

Like I said, the piano is essential to me and I use many virtual synthesizers, but I won't list them here. Too much!

Other then the genres that you are most typically known for working with, and being inspired by, are there possibly guilty pleasure bands or genres drastically different your usual repertoire that find themselves working their way into your inspiration?

I listened to very much but I don't have any guilty pleasure bands, I think.

Most of your songs have custom artwork released with them. Do you do the artwork yourself? Or do you have a talented (or series of talented) artists that you work with?

Yes, I do everything on my own, because this is my solo project.

I work on another project with some people, it's a Symphonic/Gothic Metal band with experimental and progressive influences. This will be my main project and I will work hard to make it perfect.

What sort of influences outside of your primary artistic expression help move or guide your artistic expression? I've often heard from musicians that their mundane jobs or family lives often provide a unexpected platform for inspiration.

Yes, the life is my inspiration. You won’t find more inspiration elsewhere. But that does not mean, my life is a hopeless tragedy, because my music is very dark.

Is collaboration something that is actively important to you? Do you have any individuals you are particularly successful, or unsuccessful, in collaboration with? Has there been any collaborative based songs that you would say stand out to you?

I made this remix for Angelspit, but haven’t thought about collaboration before. Maybe someday.

I work with other people, besides Lilith DX.

Your music often has a very cinematic feel to it. Have you ever worked in, or considered working in, the soundtrack industry for either movies or games?

I would love to do music for movies or games. Especially horror stuff or tragedies!
